2017-18 School Year Message . . .

Welcome to the 2017 - 18 school year in the Computer Lab.  This year, the positive message in the lab is taken from the Hanson song "I was Born".  We will be concentrating on many important skills, such as coding, robotics, keyboarding, Microsoft Office, Google Classroom, but all while centering it around the fact that their life is a Gift from God and so special  -
"I was born to do
I was born to go
I was born to be
someone,
no one's ever been
 before."

Click here to see the music video that was very well done by the Tulsa native group, Hanson.

I look forward to another amazing year working with your children.  Thank you.

Investment Day

7/8th grade Tech Ed students created businesses during the nine weeks.  They learned about the stock market and presented their companies to the class in hopes of getting investors.

Today was investment day and students filled out and signed their stock certificates and presented them to their investors.  Using good eye contact and a strong hand shake, students thanked their investors.  It is always a fund day in Tech Town.

Coding in the Lab

Computer programming, also called Coding, is happening in the lab with the 5th/6th graders.

Students are using Scratch to program various assignments and then create their own.  Scratch uses drop and drag programming blocks to allow beginner programmers to successfully create amazing programs.  One student created the vintage Pong Game.  See video below.

Keyboarding is Going strong this Quarter.

This quarter, the main project being worked on in the lab is our keyboarding skills.  It is tireless work getting the students to use proper touch-typing techniques and not look at the keyboard.  Memorizing the keyboard is the only way to learn it.  Please help you student with this much needed life skill now, so when they are in middle school and high school they can use this skill to create and turn in outstanding projects in a timely and efficient manner.

The Lord's Prayer - 2017 Catholic Schools Week Video Production

In celebration of Catholic Schools Week, I have my Middle School students work with Movie Maker and create a video.  This year, we choose to record The Lord's Prayer.  Each student will create, produce/edit their own version and learn to process into a final copy for publication.  I enjoy working with these students on this kind of project as we have great discussions and the creative process is put into their hands.

January brings pajamas and new classes.

So fun to start the new year in Tech Ed with a great group of fun kids.  Many projects are planned for the 9-weeks, but the quarter goes way too fast.
